The regional totals used in the game
Regional practice is the fastest way to improve because it turns one 197-answer task into smaller visual groups. Russia and Türkiye appear in both Europe and Asia practice, but each appears only once in the world total.
| Region | GeoBlitz total | Start practice |
|---|---|---|
| Europe | 47 | Practice Europe |
| Asia | 49 | Practice Asia |
| Africa | 54 | Practice Africa |
| North America | 23 | Practice North America |
| South America | 12 | Practice South America |
| Oceania | 14 | Practice Oceania |
These six numbers total more than 197 because Russia and Türkiye are intentionally available in both Europe and Asia rounds. Read the methodology for the full roster definition.
Europe: 47 playable entries
Europe combines familiar large countries with dense clusters of smaller states. The most efficient learning order is Western Europe, the Nordic countries, the Baltic states, Central Europe, the Balkans and finally the microstates. Russia and Türkiye are included in this practice pool because both have territory and strong geographic connections in Europe and Asia.
Complete Europe practice list
Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Türkiye, Ukraine, United Kingdom and Vatican City.
Commonly confused
Slovakia and Slovenia; Latvia and Lithuania; Serbia and Croatia; Moldova and North Macedonia. Learn each pair with its neighbours rather than as isolated names.
Easy-to-miss group
Andorra, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City are small enough to disappear at world scale, so drill them together.
Asia: 49 playable entries
Asia becomes easier when divided into West Asia, Central Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia and East Asia. Central Asian country names are a frequent source of omissions, while the Gulf states are easier to remember as a compact map cluster.
Complete Asia practice list
Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, North Korea, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Syria, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen.
Central Asian five
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Say and locate the five together until the shared “-stan” ending becomes a useful cue rather than a source of confusion.
Island and peninsular gaps
Brunei, Timor-Leste, Maldives, Bahrain and Singapore are often missed because of their scale. Learn their surrounding seas and neighbours.
Africa: 54 playable entries
Africa is the largest single GeoBlitz regional pool. A north-to-south strategy works well: learn North Africa, the Sahel, West Africa, Central Africa, East Africa, Southern Africa and the island states as separate passes.
Complete Africa practice list
Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Name clusters
Separate Niger from Nigeria and Guinea from Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea. Keep the Democratic Republic of the Congo distinct from the Republic of the Congo.
Island-state pass
Cabo Verde, Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, Sao Tome and Principe and Seychelles form a useful final checklist after the mainland.
North America: 23 playable entries
GeoBlitz uses North America in the broad geographic sense: Canada, the United States and Mexico, the seven countries of Central America, and the sovereign island states of the Caribbean.
Complete North America practice list
Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and United States.
Central America chain
From north to south: Guatemala and Belize, then Honduras and El Salvador, followed by Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.
Caribbean checklist
Do not stop after Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The smaller eastern Caribbean states account for many missed answers.
South America: 12 playable entries
South America is the smallest continental land pool and is a good first region for a perfect score. Learn the Pacific side, Atlantic side and the two smaller countries on the north-east coast.
Complete South America practice list
Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela.
High-value pair
Guyana and Suriname are often omitted. Remember them together on the north-east coast, immediately west of French Guiana.
Landlocked pair
Bolivia and Paraguay are the continent’s two landlocked sovereign states.
Oceania: 14 playable entries
Oceania is usually the final obstacle to a perfect world score because many island states are tiny at world-map scale. Learn them in three groups: Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia, with Australia and New Zealand as anchors.
Complete Oceania practice list
Australia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
Melanesian run
Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Fiji form a useful west-to-east practice sequence.
Microstate checklist
Palau, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Kiribati and Tuvalu are easy to lose in a world round. Recite this six-country list before finishing.
A practical order for learning the regions
- Start with South America and reach 12/12.
- Learn Europe in clusters, including the microstates.
- Add North America, separating Central America from the Caribbean.
- Work through Africa by subregion rather than alphabetically.
- Divide Asia into five subregions and practise each as a checklist.
- Finish with Oceania, then return to a full world round.
Once a region is reliable in Type Countries, repeat it using Click the Country. Recall and map recognition are related but different skills, and alternating them produces stronger memory than repeating one input style.
