How the mode works
GeoBlitz presents one country at a time. Click the matching shape; a correct selection advances the queue, while an incorrect selection uses a life when lives are enabled.
You can play the whole world or focus on one region. Regional mode automatically zooms to the active countries and is the best starting point for dense maps such as Europe or the Caribbean.
Why location practice is different
Type Countries can be completed from a memorised list. Click the Country requires the name to activate a map position. Learners commonly discover that they can name Moldova, Guyana or Brunei but cannot reliably select them. That gap is normal and is precisely what this mode measures.
Configure a learning round
- Choose one region rather than World.
- Set the timer to Off and lives to Off for the first pass.
- Keep borders shown.
- Use the map zoom controls for microstates and island groups.
- After a wrong click, compare the selected country with the target before continuing.
Learn by neighbour relationships
A country location becomes durable when it is connected to surrounding features. Instead of memorising a point, learn a statement:
- Portugal is west of Spain.
- Laos is landlocked between several Southeast Asian neighbours.
- Uruguay lies between Argentina, Brazil and the Atlantic.
- Lesotho is enclosed by South Africa.
- Brunei occupies two small areas on the island of Borneo.
Neighbour relationships are especially effective because they also improve Border Chain and outline recognition.
Regions that benefit most from click practice

Handling microstates and tiny islands
The world geometry cannot make every tiny sovereign state easy to click at the same scale. GeoBlitz provides enlarged markers for microstates and zoom controls for dense areas. In a learning session, zooming is not cheating; the skill is selecting the correct location after seeing appropriate detail.
Progress from recognition to recall
- Begin with Click the Country and borders visible.
- Repeat the region until location errors are rare.
- Switch to Click Then Name so the shape must produce the name.
- Use Random: Name It to test the same relationship without choosing the prompt order.
- Return to a world round to check whether regional knowledge transfers.
When to use lives and a timer
Lives turn mistakes into consequences and are useful for assessment, but they shorten a learning session. Add three or five lives only after completing the region in practice mode. Use Count Up before Count Down so speed improves without sacrificing coverage.
What to record after a round
- Countries clicked incorrectly.
- Countries found only after heavy zooming.
- Country pairs repeatedly reversed.
- Regions where the map had to be searched randomly.
- Locations still remembered one week later.
